Health insurance for psychological support
Is there coverage from health insurance for psychological support?
If you are being treated in a reference hospital, the costs of psychological support for the patient and their loved ones are fully reimbursed.
Outpatient psychological support can be (partially) reimbursed in Belgium through compulsory health insurance and supplementary benefits from your health insurance fund. However, the reimbursement amount and conditions vary considerably depending on your health insurance fund, the type of psychologist, and whether they participate in a recognized care network.
This reimbursement depends on the health insurance fund, the patient's age, and may be limited to a certain amount or a certain number of sessions. It's best to check with your health insurance fund.
If you contact a primary care psychologist, you pay a lower fee. For children, it's completely free. Adults pay €11, or €4 with a higher reimbursement rate. Group sessions are also available and are less expensive.
