A second opinion
It's possible that people in a complex medical situation would appreciate hearing the opinion of another hospital team. This is perfectly possible and understandable. If you're unsure and can't make a decision, this can be very illuminating.
It's important that you first ask all your questions to your own healthcare providers. Perhaps the questions you have can be answered, but they've never been asked and therefore never discussed.
It is not always possible for a physician to accurately assess all of a patient's questions and concerns.
If you do want a different opinion, discuss it openly with your current healthcare providers and get advice on who to ask for this second opinion from. This allows for open communication, and your healthcare provider will better understand your intentions. This allows for a good exchange of information, giving the doctors you're contacting a clear picture of the situation so that, for example, no unnecessary second examinations are performed. It can also be helpful for both teams to consult after your consultations.
So be transparent and open if you want a second opinion, that will allow for the best referral possible.
